A Thermal Relief Valve is a compact safety device designed to protect closed piping systems and equipment from pressure build-up caused by thermal expansion of trapped liquids. When liquid inside a blocked line or vessel heats up, pressure rises rapidly. The valve automatically opens at the preset pressure and safely relieves excess pressure, preventing damage to pipelines, pumps, heat exchangers, and process equipment.
Working Principle When liquid gets trapped between isolation valves or inside a closed system, temperature rise causes thermal expansion and pressure increase. The thermal relief valve senses this pressure rise and automatically opens at the calibrated set pressure to discharge a small amount of fluid. Once normal pressure is restored, the valve reseats tightly to prevent leakage.
